This Privacy Policy explains what data Mileage Calculator ("the App") holds, why it holds it, and what rights you have over it. It applies to the Android version of the App distributed on the Google Play Store.
Mileage Calculator is a personal utility with no developer-operated servers and no user accounts. All data you enter stays on your device unless you explicitly choose to back it up to your own Google Drive.
For the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the data controller is:

The App stores the following data locally on your device, in Android's private app storage. This data is not accessible to other apps and is not transmitted to the developer.
The App does not collect, transmit, or store any other data. It requests no location, camera, contacts, or microphone permissions.
The Drive backup feature is entirely optional. You can use every other function of the App without a Google account.
When you connect Google Drive and trigger a backup (manually or on schedule), the App uploads a single CSV file containing your odometer readings to your own Google Drive account. The file is plain text in the format:
Date,Start,End
2026-01-15,12345,12390
2026-01-16,12390,12451
The App requests the drive.file scope — the most limited Drive permission available. This scope grants access only to files the App itself creates. The developer has no access to your Drive, your backup file, or any other files in your account.
Under UK GDPR, personal data may only be processed where a lawful basis applies. The App relies on the following bases:
Your data is retained on your device for as long as you use the App. It is removed when you:
A backup CSV file in your Google Drive persists until you delete it yourself from Google Drive. The developer has no ability to delete files from your Drive on your behalf.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party.
The only external transfer of your data is the backup CSV you choose to upload to your own Google Drive account. That transfer goes directly to Google's servers under your own Google account credentials. The developer receives no copy of this file and has no access to it.
The App itself makes no international data transfers. Data stored on your device remains on your device.
If you use the Google Drive backup feature, your backup file is stored on Google's servers, which may be located outside the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area. This transfer is subject to Google's own data transfer mechanisms and privacy policy, not those of the developer. You can review Google's data processing terms at policies.google.com/privacy.
The App is distributed via the Google Play Store. Google may collect information about your device, app installation, and usage as part of the Play Store service, independently of this App. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for details of how Google processes data through the Play Store.
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
Request a copy of the personal data the App holds about you.
Correct inaccurate data — you can edit any entry directly in the App.
Delete your data by clearing the App's storage or uninstalling.
Export your data as a CSV file using the App's built-in export function.
Request that processing of your data be restricted in certain circumstances.
Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
Disconnect Google Drive at any time in Settings to withdraw consent for OAuth token storage.
Because all data is stored locally on your device, you can exercise most of these rights directly within the App or through Android's app settings without needing to contact us. For any request you cannot fulfil yourself, contact stevenjkinloch@gmail.com and we will respond within one month.
Right to complain: If you believe your data protection rights have been violated, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK's supervisory authority, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint · 0303 123 1113.
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the App on a device you control, you can remove all data by clearing the App's storage or uninstalling it.
If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Where changes are significant, we will make reasonable efforts to bring them to your attention via the App or the Play Store listing. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
